鑢目“yasuri-me” (rasp mark) finish
“Yasuri-me” (rasp mark) finish is a pattern applied to the tang of
a Japanese sword blade to prevent the blade from slipping out of its grip. The
MRG-G2000GA takes in these markings on the centre links of its band. The decorative
rasp marks, a technique inherited by the famed Gassan family of swordmakers,
express a certain philosophy of Japanese swords, and are individually hand-carved by
the swordsmith Sadanobu Gassan.
In addition, the second central link of the band bears a symbol certifying its creator, an inscription of the first character of the motto of the Gassan family, 鍛刀一筋“Tan-tou-hito-suji” (Devotion to the forging of swords). The exterior of the watch exudes a unique and strong presence on account of it being handmade.
Swordsmith SADANOBU GASSAN
Born in Nara Prefecture in 1979. Born into the famous Gassan family of swordsmiths, Sadanobu Gassan was exposed to the world of swordmaking from a young age. In 1998, he began training with his father, Sadatoshi Gassan. In 2006, he was recognised as a swordmaker by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs. Since that time, he has continued to challenge himself in new areas of craftsmanship that carry forth the traditions of the past, and has won numerous prizes and accolades in various competitions. As the sixth in the Gassan line from Osaka, he carries the burden of the next generation of Japanese swords. Sadanobu Gassan currently serves as a director for the All Japan Swordsmith Association.

COBARION® is a cobalt chrome alloy that boasts a hardness more than twice that of stainless steel and that is said to have the brilliant sparkle of platinum. The COBARION® bezel features a crescent-shaped cut and a flawless mirror finish, an expression of the point of a sharpened sword.
Note: COBARION® is a registered trademark of the Iwate Industry Promotion Centre, and is manufactured exclusively by Eiwa Corporation.
Recrystallised titanium case
Processing titanium materials with heat results in the creation of a unique crystallised pattern on the surface. These represent “nie” (iron particles) on a tempered Japanese sword blade.
Deep-violet-AIP® (arc ion plating) processing
The titanium case is treated with surface processing that grants it a hardness exceeding that of DLC, strengthening its resistance to abrasions. The material expresses the colour of heated and hardened steel via “koki-murasaki” (deep violet), a traditional Japanese colour.
Note: AIP® (arc ion plating) is a registered trademark of Kobe Steel, Ltd.
Metal plate and serial number
The metal plate contains the inscription, “2019 LIMITED”. The case back also includes an inscribed serial number, indicating that the watch is one of 300 watches in the world.
Clad guard structure
The crown, buttons, and guard parts are integrated for improved shock resistance. α GEL has been inserted into the crown to absorb shocks. The prominent crown reinforces the impression of a powerful timepiece.
Note: αGEL is a registered trademark of Taica Corporation.
Deep hardening processing
Titanium is finished with heat to generate a layer of hardness on the surface. This increases the strength of the materials themselves.
3D hour index with phosphorescent inlays and multi-sided-cut hour and minute hands point out the dial’s impression of depth.
(ISO 764 standard-compliant)
Magnetically resistant plates are installed inside the module. This allows the watch to maintain its sensitivity to radio signals, while protecting the watch’s hands from stopping or shifting due to everyday magnetic fields.
